Let’s look at how we can use a task analysis to address the community skill Makes purchases with a debit or credit card following the correct procedure.

Money is a part of everyday life, and it can be a difficult concept to teach individuals with disabilities. When thinking about the different forms of payment people use in the community everyday (cash, checks, debit card, credit card), each form of payment has different procedures that need to be followed. Let’s look at one example of making a purchase with a debit or credit card following the correct procedure.

A task analysis is a great strategy to break down this complex task down into visual steps, like in the example shown. A step by step guide will help the individual make purchases independently in the community. Here you can see an example of the steps that make up the task of making a purchase with a debit card.
