Welcome to LASARD’s free Lunch + Learn webinar series! These webinars are for educators, families, and anyone else interested. Lunch + Learns happen on the second Friday of each month from 12:00-12:30pm.

Transition and Post-Secondary Planning

In this 30-minute webinar, LASARD provides information and resources to families of students that are planning on making the transition form school to life-after-school with a focus on post-secondary courses, community skills, and employment. The webinar is hosted by LASARD facilitator, Amy Dakin, MA and Sue Killam, M.Ed, Program Director of our sister program called Post-Secondary Apprenticeship for Youth (PAY Check).

Transition Resources

STAR Plans help PAY Check participants set goals for themselves in adulthood and realize the steps needed for success. The “STAR” in STAR Plan stands for Students Transitioning to Adult Roles. It helps young adults decide for themselves what they want to do after high school by identifying life goals in five domain areas: Career Development, Academic Enrichment, Independent Living, Self-Determination, and Community Engagement. The planning process identifies short- and long-term goals and the action steps to achieve those goals.

The STAR Plan is a person-centered plan made by the young adult in collaboration with teachers, friends, and family. This teamwork helps to empower the individual to achieve their dreams. Download a STAR Plan template at the link below and follow along to identify paths to a successful, independent, and self-determined life!

The STAR Plan was developed by Mickie Hayes, Director of the Florida Consortium on Postsecondary Education and Intellectual Disabilities, and Mike Muldoon, Exceptional Student Education Coordinator at the School District of Manatee County. The STAR PCP process was funded by the University of South Florida St. Petersburg through a grant from the Office of Postsecondary Education, United States Department of Education.
